Welcome to
VI Form Campus

The Island Innovation VI Form Campus has experienced and inspirational subject specialist teachers along with excellent facilities. A significant advantage of bringing the two Colleges’ VI forms together is the opportunity to share and learn from best practice as well as to maximise resources and experience.

Our ethos is to relentlessly pursue outstanding teaching, learning and pastoral care, whilst maintaining the focus on the needs of the individual student. We are passionate about making a difference to young people’s lives and equipping them for futures in which they can achieve their aspirations.

Courses on offer include a wide range of A levels, Level 3 programmes, the prestigious International Baccalaureate, alongside extra curricular activities designed to enhance and complement academic study as well as engaging and stimulating our students by offering new and exciting opportunities.

The joint VI form currently has over 540 students from all over the Isle of Wight. Since the buildings were handed over to us on 1 September 2011, the facilities have been significantly enhanced and are of a standard to rival any learning institution. Students and teachers have access to very good facilities in an environment that many have already remarked “is like a university”. However, the best way to appreciate the Campus is to visit us and see the VI Form in action.

We are committed to ensuring teaching and learning is of the highest quality and have put in place a rigorous programme of monitoring to ensure that not only are our students well taught but that they are supported, through a range of classroom activities, to become active, inquisitive and independent learners.

The VI form Campus is an ideal stepping stone between school and higher education, or employment and gives students more freedom and responsibility. Students are encouraged to manage their own time and develop the study and work skills needed for University, or the world of work.

Students have access to a wide range of A level provision with the Joint VI form having the ability to offer minority subjects which could not be supported with fewer students; nevertheless, a minimum of six to ten students (depending on the subject) will be required to ensure a course will run. Already this year, there is much interest amongst Year 11 students in the International Baccalaureate qualification. The IB is highly regarded world-wide and provides students with the opportunity to study six subjects as well as develop the independent study skills required for university.

Students’ personal development is also very important to us. Each student has a Professional Tutor who meets with his/her student on a regular basis and supports their transition from GCSE to A level and greater independence. High levels of attendance are required, over 93 per cent, if students are to maximise their learning opportunities.

There are excellent opportunities for students to participate in a wide range of extra curricular provision including the renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, a pre-driver training course, sporting activities and drama/ musical shows and productions. Already this year, our Year 12 students have benefitted from a day at UKSA where they experienced a range of off-shore and on-shore activities. All VI form students are benefitting from the opportunities presented by our Trust partners such as working with professional Artists on exhibition pieces, Health Care specialists and University lectures and professors.

We know our VI form will go from strength to strength. We hope you will join us to share in our success. I look forward to meeting you and do hope you will take the opportunity to see what we have to offer.

Irrespective of whether you do decide to apply for our VI Form, we wish you every success in your forthcoming GCSEs and post 16 experiences.
